The building of the twelve colleges

The artist is unknown

The work is performed by engraving E. G. Vnukova from drawing m. And. Makhaev, made from nature using a camera-sob (1748–1750). One of the most significant buildings of Peter’s time is depicted (1722–1732, architects D. Trezini, t. Schwrtfeger), where throughout the XVIII century the highest bodies of the State Administration of Russia – the Senate, Synod and College were located. In 1819, the building housed the university located there to this day. In front of the facade, a channel is visible, dug according to the plan of Peter I and is already partially bombarded by the middle of the 18th century.
