The works of Fedor Alekseev, attract attention not only by the fact that he recreates documented species of the city on canvas and gives them an emotional, artistic and-shaped character. His works became an interesting material in the study of the history and change of the architectural appearance of cities. A great example of this is the canvas "View of the Kazan Cathedral in St. Petersburg", where the Cathedral of the Icon of the Kazan Mother of God (Kazan Cathedral) is depicted, built in 1811 according to the project of architect A.M.Voronikhina on the site of a small church. Please note: near the cathedral there are no monuments to Kutuzov and Barclay de Tolly familiar to us, but there is an obelisk that lasted until 1826.

“View of the Kazan Cathedral in St. Petersburg” is an example of the artist’s new approach to the image of his hometown. Masters are attracted not by the majesty of the imperial capital, but everyday existence. Against the backdrop of a solemn monumental building, the master depicts a simple street life: booths and stalls, laundresses, erasing underwear in the Catherine Canal (now Griboedov’s channel), boats entering under the arch of the bridge, passers-by on its steps. Unlike early works, where people’s figures only revived the landscape, here they have an independent meaning. Grouped into intricate genre scenes, they live, act, helping the viewer better understand the image of St. Petersburg. The artist looks at the city through the eyes of a permanent resident, not an outside observer; He is dear to him and is familiar in his beauty.
