The state of safety before restoration:
The picture is written on a thin canvas. Multi -layer soil, having a significant thickness, over time began to be damaged by craquelure. The thin canvas was not able to hold such powerful cracks in painting. As a result, there were strong drawn ups of the author’s canvas, deforming along the craquelure. On the front side, Krakenur not only broke the plane of the picture and interfered with the perception of the image, but also created a significant threat of destruction of the colorful layer. Old restoration masticians lay below the level of author’s painting, tinting darkened, which together worsened the exposition type of picture. Layers of varnish over time lost transparency and darkened.
Complex of the events:
The main task of restoration was to stop the development of craquelure, put in the plane the existing elations of painting and breakdown. For this, a comprehensive strengthening of a colorful layer and soil was carried out, which allowed to completely solve the task. To fix the result of conservation, the author’s basis was strengthened by duplicate canvas. The picture was stretched over the subframe, superficial contaminants were removed from painting. After that, delicate work was carried out on the quenching and alignment of the varnish film. The operation required special caution, since in the process of creating the picture the artist used borel silver and transparent screening as a lining on some elements of the image. Restoration soil was brought to the loss of the loss, the old mastications were leveled. Restoration tints have been completed. The portrait was transformed in the revealed color wealth and became a pearl of constant exposition.
